ظلت الحياة النباتية في البوسنة والتى استغرق تكوينها قرونا محتفظة بحالتها الأولية. ويعيش فى المنطقة ما يربو على الثلاثة آلاف وخمسمائة نوع من النباتات المختلفة ومن بينها الأنواع المستوطنة كالصنوبر البوسنى والسيبرى الكرواتى والقرنفل الوردى.
وقد تحولت العديد من الغابات من المناطق السفلى إلى المناطق العليا والتى تعتمد على التأثيرات المختلفة للمناخ وعلى التعرض للشمس وتسرب هواء البحر والبرد والمطر.
الطبيعة هى من كوّن هذه الكميات الكبيرة من الأعشاب العطرية والطبية والتى يتم قطفها وتجفيفها و بيعها لأستخدامها فى الأغراض الطبية.
وتقوم هذه الحدائق العطرة ذات الألوان باجتذاب النحل والذى يقوم بصنع عسل غال الثمن. لقد كانت النباتات ولا تزال طعاما ودواء.

ولعالم الحيوان أيضا ظروف معيشية مناسبة من حقول وأرض صخرية وجبال وأنهار ومنحدرات وأراض قابلة للزراعة، فهناك الثديات الكبيرة كالدببة والذئاب والغزلان والثعابين والسحالى والفراشات الرائعة والحيوانات المائية وأسماك البحر والأعداد الغزيرة من الطيور الجارحة وطيور المستنقعات.
وتوجد فى البوسنة العديد من الأنواع الأصيلة من الحيوانات الداجنة كالمهر البوسنوى والبوسا البوسنوى وبقر الكاتاكو وسلالات كلاب رعى الغنم من نوعى تورنجاك وباراك وأغنام البرامنكا وأنواعا مختلفة من الحمام كحمام زينيتسا البهلوانى الأزرق وحمام سراييفو البهلوانى وغيرها.

Flora and domestic animals in Bosnia
The flora, which has been nurtured for centuries, has been preserved in its primeval pristineness. More than 3500 various plant species live in this area, and among them the endemic species - Bosnian pine (Pinus leucodermis), Croatian sibirea (Sibirea croatica), clove pink (Dianthus prenius) and rock bells (Edraianthus niveus). Various forest communities alter from the lower to the upper areas, which depend on various climatic influences, exposure to the sun, the infiltration of sea air, cold and precipitation.
Only nature could have formed such an abundance of aromatic and medicinal herbs that are picked, dried and traded for the production of medicine. This multicolored scented garden draws bees, which gather very prized honey. Plants have always been food and medicine. There are many large mammals (bear, wolf, deer, ...), snakes and lizards, magnificent butterflies, water animals, fresh water and sea fish, and an abundance of birds - birds of prey and marsh birds.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, there are many autochthonous species of domestic animals: Bosnian pony, Bosnian Busa or Gatacko cattle, Tornjak and Barak breeds of sheep dog, Pramenka sheep, as well as various types of pigeon (the blue tumbler pigeon of Zenica, the tumbler pigeon of Sarajevo) and so on.
The animal world also found some very favorable living conditions here - fields, rocky ground, moun-tains, rivers, cliffs and cultivable tracts.
